Was it democracy to give the British people the opportunity to vote about membership of the European Union after providing them with contradictory information about the consequences of leaving? Was it democracy to ask the opinion of the Dutch people about an Association Agreement with Ukraine for improper reasons? (The committee that took the initiative admitted that it did not care at all about Ukraine but wanted to use the referendum to destroy the European Union or drive the Netherlands out of the EU.)
Is it democracy when Dutch ministers shy away from telling the people that the Netherlands is giving up (for very good reasons) part of its sovereignty to the European Union because that would incite people to vote for anti-European parties? (See my column Who dares to be honest?)
Obviously, if politicians believe that voters cannot be trusted with the truth, democracy is seriously at risk. For a democracy to function it is essential that a government respects the people and takes them seriously, not only those that have voted for that government, but all people. Furthermore, in order to exercise their democratic rights properly, people should be informed as fully as possible.
Democracy is a living system of government that can only prosper by being reinvented again and again. It can be strengthened by a referendum if a question can be answered by a simple yes or no. However, democracy is undermined when people are made to believe that a complicated question that involves the interests of different countries can be satisfactorily answered by a referendum in one of these countries. Neither the future of the relation between the EU and Ukraine, nor the future relation between the United Kingdom and the EU can be based on a simplistic yes or no.
We developed Scrum in the early 1990s. We wrote the first version of theScrum Guide in 2010 to help people worldwide understand Scrum. We haveevolved the Guide since then through small, functional updates.Together, we stand behind it.
Scrum is simple. Try it as is and determine if its philosophy, theory, and structure help to achieve goals and create value. The Scrumframework is purposefully incomplete, only defining the parts requiredto implement Scrum theory. Scrum is built upon by the collectiveintelligence of the people using it. Rather than provide people withdetailed instructions, the rules of Scrum guide their relationships andinteractions.
Scrum employs an iterative, incremental approach to optimizepredictability and to control risk. Scrum engages groups of people whocollectively have all the skills and expertise to do the work and shareor acquire such skills as needed.
The Scrum Team commits to achieving its goals and to supporting eachother. Their primary focus is on the work of the Sprint to make the bestpossible progress toward these goals. The Scrum Team and itsstakeholders are open about the work and the challenges. Scrum Teammembers respect each other to be capable, independent people, and arerespected as such by the people with whom they work. The Scrum Teammembers have the courage to do the right thing, to work on toughproblems.
These values give direction to the Scrum Team with regard to their work, actions, and behavior. The decisions that are made, the steps taken, andthe way Scrum is used should reinforce these values, not diminish orundermine them. The Scrum Team members learn and explore the values asthey work with the Scrum events and artifacts. When these values areembodied by the Scrum Team and the people they work with, the empiricalScrum pillars of transparency, inspection, and adaptation come to lifebuilding trust.
The fundamental unit of Scrum is a small team of people, a Scrum Team. The Scrum Team consists of one Scrum Master, one Product Owner, andDevelopers. Within a Scrum Team, there are no sub-teams or hierarchies. It is a cohesive unit of professionals focused on one objective at atime, the Product Goal.
The Scrum Team is small enough to remain nimble and large enough tocomplete significant work within a Sprint, typically 10 or fewer people. In general, we have found that smaller teams communicate better and aremore productive. If Scrum Teams become too large, they should considerreorganizing into multiple cohesive Scrum Teams, each focused on thesame product. Therefore, they should share the same Product Goal,Product Backlog, and Product Owner.
The Product Owner ensures that attendees are prepared to discuss themost important Product Backlog items and how they map to the ProductGoal. The Scrum Team may also invite other people to attend SprintPlanning to provide advice.
Of the thousands of people who have contributed to Scrum, we shouldsingle out those who were instrumental at the start: Jeff Sutherlandworked with Jeff McKenna and John Scumniotales, and Ken Schwaber workedwith Mike Smith and Chris Martin, and all of them worked together. Manyothers contributed in the ensuing years and without their help Scrumwould not be refined as it is today.

Nearly six-in-ten want organizations working for Black progress to address the distinct challenges facing Black LGBTQ people. Black Americans are more likely to know someone who is transgender or nonbinary than to identify as such themselves.

Promote inclusion in your community and help people with developmental disabilities find employment, ease their transition from school into community living, invite them to your place of worship, or take a person into your home and care for them as a Family Care Provider.
OPWDD holds quarterly public meetings to share new information about services and supports, and to provide the people we support, their family members and the people who support them the opportunity to provide feedback.

The City of Chicago welcomes all City residents and nearly 60 million visitors annually, many who have disabilities. Due to the disability community being undercounted in the U.S. Census, the number of people with disabilities served by the City of Chicago and MOPD greatly exceeds the 300,000 people recorded in the U.S. Census.
Keeping notes also reveals the kinds of requests or people who might cause you anxiety. For those interactions, Lue says, "Ask yourself: What's the baggage behind this?" Does a certain kind of request remind you of a bad relationship or some other traumatic event?
"If you do things from a place of guilt or obligation, it is guaranteed to lead to resentment," she says. Because when a people pleaser doesn't see someone spending the same amount of time or energy on them, that can make the people pleaser feel robbed.
Pausing not only buys you a little time but helps you assess what's really behind the request. Was this a demand? Or was it just a suggestion? This quiets anxious thoughts that might lead you right back to people-pleasing.
An estimated half a million people shop at the 25 market sites each year. Prices are usually lower than retail stores. Many ethnic fruits and vegetables not normally found in the large retail stores are found here. Each market operates once a week and lasts about an hour. 041b061a72
